Perth Fairy Bread ✨
The smallest great dish of Australia: soft white bread painted with butter, drowned in nonpareil sprinkles ('hundreds and thousands'), cut into fingers and eaten at every kids' party between the sausage rolls and the crying. Perth beaches make it a picnic staple — it was even voted Australia's favorite children's party food, and it took a 2020 parliamentary petition to ask whether a national dish so beloved deserved protection from butterless imitators. You cannot improve it; you can only commit: lots of butter, lots of sprinkles.
Méthode
-
1
Butter each slice thickly and evenly to the edges — the sprinkles need a landing strip, not islands.
-
2
Pour sprinkles over a slice in a generous rain; press very lightly with a clean palm or board so they stick in color, not bald patches.
-
3
Flip onto the sprinkle bed for full coverage (the Perth double-dip school) or keep one side naked — pick a hill to die on.
-
4
Trim, cut into fingers or stars with a cookie cutter, and serve immediately at a party, a beach, or any Tuesday that needs cheering up.
