Welsh Rarebit 🧀
Britain's posh answer to cheese on toast: a thick sauce of sharp cheddar, stout or ale, mustard and Worcestershire, poured over bread and grilled until it blisters into a lacquered crust. Pub legend, kitchen reality in 20 minutes.
Método
-
1
Butter one side of each slice and toast under a hot grill or in a pan until just colored; place on a baking tray.
-
2
Melt butter, stir in flour and cook 1 minute; pour in beer little by little, whisking, until glossy and thick.
-
3
Take off the heat, add mustard, Worcestershire, pepper and the grated cheese; stir to a thick, saucy mass.
-
4
Pile the sauce over the toast, make a few wells with the back of a spoon, and dust with paprika.
-
5
Grill high 3-4 minutes until deeply blistered and speckled brown but still soft underneath.
-
6
Let it set one minute — the sauce firms up — then eat before anyone at the table claims someone else's slice.
